Patients Medical was founded in 1974 by Dr. Robert Atkins — creator of the Atkins Diet — and Dr. Warren M. Levin, MD, a founding member of the American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM) and a pioneer of integrative and functional medicine in New York City.
Since 2004, the practice has been led by Dr. Rashmi Gulati, MD, a Board-Certified physician with over 30 years of experience specializing in Functional Medicine and reproductive endocrinology. Dr. Gulati has a particular focus on women over 40 facing fertility challenges — her oldest patient to successfully deliver a baby was 52 years old, with the birth at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, where Dr. Gulati holds full medical privileges.
In 2006, Dr. Satty Gill Keswani, MD joined the practice. Dr. Keswani is a Board-Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist, Holistic Gynecologist, and Infertility Specialist with over 30 years of experience. She has pioneered fertility techniques in artificial insemination since 1990 and has delivered over 1,000 babies.In March 2006 she received a Physician of the Year award from a major national physician organization.
Also in 2006, demand for surrogacy in India grew rapidly. By 2012, more than 25,000 babies had been born to Indian surrogates, with ~50% from the USA and Europe. Through IndianEggDonors.com we launched surrogacy in India for under $30,000 — establishing our practice as a dominant international presence. In 2015, India banned surrogacy for non-Indians. IndianEggDonors.com then pivoted to focus exclusively on its core strength: egg donor matching for Indian and South Asian intended parents in the USA and Canada.
In 2008, we established DGA, Inc., registered with New York State Tissue Bank Operations (Facility License #1570) and the Food and Drug Administration (FEI # 3021544308). In 2022 we received NYS Surrogacy Agency License GSP220903 — among the first agencies approved.

Sinai Hospital in New York City, remains dedicated to providing reproductive medicine support for Intended Parents facing medical challenges. We also offer gynecological examinations and initial screenings for egg donors and surrogate mothers, Dr. Cosar is no longer with Patients Medical.
